Samuel Balot age 93, passed away at Village Shalom on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Funeral services will be held at Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64131 on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Village Shalom, The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah, or the charity of one's choice.
Samuel was a native of Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from Central High School in 1947, he attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a B.S. degree in 1951. He was a member of AE Social Fraternity while there.
He entered the US Marine Corps and served for two years before he was honorably discharged in 1954. While in the corps he married his sweetheart, Janice Abraham in 1952. She joined him in Santa Ana, California at the base where he was stationed. After his service was over, they returned to Kansas City permanently.
Sam owned and operated his grocery market for 15 years, followed by a Real Estate position with Leo Eisenberg for several years.
His final endeavor was with Century Labs, a chemical company where he trained and recruited other salespeople, plus selling chemicals for the next 28 years. During that period, he and his wife traveled the world including Russia, England, China, France, Israel, Egypt, Italy, Hawaii, Turkey, etc.
He was a lifetime member of the Jewish Community Center where he participated in many sports including weight lifting, tennis, baseball, racket ball and aerial darts.
Later in life he played bridge, shot pool with a group of friends weekly, and was a member of the ROMEO's. He also enjoyed cooking on special occasions.
He was a lifetime member of B'nai Brith, Missouri Alumni, AE and B'nai Jehudah.
He is predeceased by his parents: Morris and Fanny (Agron) Balot, brothers: Harold and Eugene (Sandra) Balot, sister: Estelle and Alfred Parnes and daughter: Karen Gross.
Survivors include his wife, Janice, with whom he was married for almost 72 years, his daughter, Sandra Davis (James), son-in-law, Michael Gross, grandchildren: Aaron Gross (Caitriona) and Melanie Gross, great-grandson, Noah Gross, and many nieces and nephews.
