Samuel D. “Sam” Benjamin of St. Charles, Michigan
Passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 20, 2024. He was 77 years old. Samuel D. Benjamin was born to the late Charles and Maxine (Esterling) Benjamin on March 21, 1947. They moved to Merrill around 1955. He was a proud 1965 graduate of Merrill High School. He married the love of his life, Kathleen M. McMahon, on November 2, 1968, where they cherished 46 years of memories with three amazing children. Kathy preceded him in death on April 25, 2015. He retired from Merrill Tool & Machine after 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. Sam was honored to serve as a volunteer fireman at Jonesfield/Lakefield Township Fire Department for 12 years. He loved deer hunting, fishing, ice fishing, turkey hunting, and traveling. Sam’s favorite destinations included Alaska and Canada.
Sam is survived by his children: Kerri (John) Bodnar; Ben (Anna) Benjamin; Billy (Jenn) Benjamin; grandchildren: Shane and Garrett Sherman; Paige, Vivian, and Michael Benjamin; Harley, David, and Wyatt Ballad; Tommy McClure; Tyric Clark; Jack and Neil Benjamin; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Joe (Sue) Benjamin; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother; brothers-in-law; and very special aunt, Catherine Maples.
Honoring Sam’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 125 E. Saginaw St., Merrill, MI 48637. Rev. Julie Bailey will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Jonesfield-Lakefield Township Fire Department.
