Samuel L. Blackburn Sr., 84, of Bedford, died on Monday, June 2, 2025 at his residence. He was born on September 8, 1940 in Lovely, a son of the late Orville and Alma (Imler) Blackburn. On February 7, 1959 in Lovely, he married Joyce M. (Whysong) Blackburn who survives along with the following family, two sons Jeffrey W. Blackburn and wife Lynn of Everett, Samuel L. Blackburn Jr. and wife Mary of Schellsburg; one daughter, Pamela L. Bothell and husband J.R. of Mercersburg; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Joe, and Tom Blackburn, and one sister, Orpha Klotz.
Samuel was a graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School, class of 1958 and after high school worked as a cook at the Landmark Restaurant and the Midway. He then worked as a Truck Driver for various companies, including Eazor Express, Daniel Motor Freight, McQuaide, Sentle, Overland Express, and Gribble. He worked for Ingalls Ship Yard in Mississippi and later returned to the area and retired from D.M. Bowman Trucking Company. He was a member of the Mt. Union Church of Lovely, the Alum Bank Fire Hall Auxiliary, and the Bedford Moose Lodge 480. Sam had many hobbies which included fishing, fixing cars, and reading.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Pastor Keith Fleegle officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Mt. Union Church of Lovely,
