Samuel Carter Obituary

On April 24, 1955 in Shubuta, MS, a baby boy was born to the union of Mr. Edward Carter, Jr. and the late Elnora (Heidelberg) Carter. This baby would be named Samuel Lee, and would be known to his friends and family as "Sam." He joined Sweet Pilgrim United Methodist Church in his hometown during his youth and would maintain his membership there through the rest of his life.
Sam was joined in holy matrimony to the former Audrey Brown. The couple enjoyed a happy and loving marriage until he was called home.
Sam learned to draw at an early age and was an artist during those years. A self taught artist, he could draw practically anything and would draw left handed!
A man of varied interests, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, solving a Rubik's Cube, fishing, and we cannot forget barbecuing! Sam's specialties on the grill included ribs, chicken, steak, and hotdogs. He loved to cook for his grandchildren.
He also enjoyed sports-his favorite sports teams were the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Saints. He was a fan of the late Kobe Bryant during his tenure with the Lakers.
Sam was employed as a stock clerk for Sunflower Food Store until he retired.
On the evening of October 15, 2025, Sam's book of life had its final entry in the final earthly chapter when he passed into eternity.
His memories will be cherished with love with his wife, Audrey Carter; son: Tony Lacey; daughter: Ashley Carter; two grandsons: Chrisshawn and Damien Clark; his father: Edward Carter, Jr.; sisters: Susie (Howard) Houston, Memphis TN; Rhonda (Billy) Carter Smith, Waynesboro MS; brothers: Edward Douglas (Elnora) Carter, Indianapolis IN, and Lavelle (Diane) Carter of Rose Hill, MS, and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra McClellan, in addition to his mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Sweet Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Shubuta. The funeral will be officiated by Rev. Willie Kinslow, with interment following at the church Cemetery.
The viewing periods will occur Friday, October 24, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Turner Funeral Home and Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Sweet Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Shubuta, MS.
