Samuel Gilford "Sam" Crowe Sr.

Samuel "Sam" Gilford Crowe, Sr., aged 69, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was born on May 4, 1955, in Irvine, KY to the late William "Buck" Crowe and Lona Belle McKinney Crowe.
Sam spent his career in service to others. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was part of the U.S.M.C. Crash Fire Rescue. The second half of his career was spent as a first responder where he retired as Captain from the Blue Grass Army Depot Fire Department.
Similarly, Sam also spent his personal life in service to others. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, Papaw, uncle, and friend. He lived and led by example; treating others with unconditional kindness and support. He was generous in nature and would do anything for others. He was an intelligent man, an expert problem solver, and skilled in so many trades. He enjoyed the simple things in life and his family and friends were his biggest passions. His grandsons were his pride and joy; he loved them fiercely.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Lona Crowe, and his older sister, Aelline Crowe Richardson. He is survived by his son and daughter, Samuel G. Crowe, Jr. and Loni Yost, and their spouses April Frost-Crowe and Josh Yost. Sam, "Papaw Crowe", leaves behind four prized grandsons, Samuel "Trey" G. Crowe III, Colson Buckley Crowe, Zachary Joshua Yost, and Benjamin "Benny" David Garet Yost. He also leaves behind a devoted older brother, James Crowe, many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear family and friends.
At his request, a formal funeral service will not be held. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date to honor his memory and to celebrate the impact Sam had on so many. The family appreciates the support and prayers during this time. Please do not hesitate to reach out and share fond memories and stories you may have of Sam.
