Samuel E. DeBurra Sr.

In Madison, Saturday, November 29, 2008, Samuel E. DeBurra, Sr. long time resident of Madison. Loving husband of the late Jane Early DeBurra. Born in Methuen, MA on April 25, 1927 son of the late Sabatino (Sam) and Alma LaCroix DeBurra. Father of Barbara Kokins and her husband Scott of Gulfport, FL, Samuel E. DeBurra, Jr. and his wife Katherine of Madison, Patricia D. Gerard and her husband George of Madison and Alma D. Carroll and her husband Matthew of Killingworth.

Brother of Richard DeBurra of Madison and his late wife Mary Early DeBurra, David (Muriel) DeBurra of Spokane, WA, and Donald (Katherine) DeBurra of Houston, TX. Also survived by nine grandchildren, Blake, Rowan, Brian and Michael Kokins, Samantha Jane, Samuel III and Lawrence DeBurra, Nicole and George T. Gerard V, a great grandson, Zander Kokins and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother, Robert DeBurra.

Mr. DeBurra served his country during WW II in the Navy and was employed with the Local 424 Iron Workers of New Haven for most of his working career. He was 1945 graduate of Daniel Hand president of his class, and captain of the football and basketball teams. For 55 years, Sam was a member of the Madison Fire Dept. and spent 25 of those years on active service. He was instrumental in founding of the Junior Fire Dept and active in Fireman’s Dance Committee.

Funeral services will be held at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford on Friday, December 5 at 10am. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thur. Dec. 4 from 5–8pm.
