Published by Legacy on Nov. 9, 2025.
Samuel Edwin Dickinson, known affectionately as Sam to his friends and family, passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 83, in San Antonio, TX.
Born on July 13, 1942, in Bandera, TX, Sam was a man whose life was characterized by his friendly demeanor, handy skills, and creative spirit. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sherry Ann Dickinson, and his parents, Edwin Uriah Dickinson and Annie Della Pawvlik.
Sam graduated from Bandera High School and went on to further his education at the community college where he met his future bride and honed the skills that would define his career.
He dedicated many years to the American aircraft and aerospace manufacturing industry, where he was respected as a shop maintenance foreman team lead. His work was not just a job but a testament to his commitment to excellence and the betterment of the industry he loved.
Outside of his professional life, Sam was a Christian who lived his faith through his actions and kindness towards others.
He had a talent for woodworking, machine and automotive repair, household repairs and carpentry.
Sam's passion for classic cars and trucks, hot rods and car racing was well-known. He loved tinkering on his many projects at home or could be found enjoying local car shows and meets, sharing stories, and admiring with fellow enthusiasts.
Football season was a special time for Sam, as it brought family and friends together to cheer on their favorite teams. Sam was an avid fan of the KC Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys.
Later on in life Sam enjoyed spending time with friends, often gathering at his favorite local restaurant, talking or just simply listening and taking it all in, he loved the company of many wonderful people that he would fondly call his brothers, friends, and family.
Sam's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his three children, Jeffrey Dickinson, Randall Dickinson, and Jolie Ortiz; his two grandchildren, Zoe Kasmer-Ortiz and Kaden Dickinson; his son-in-law, Joseph Ortiz; and his daughter-in-law, Michele Dickinson.
Sam's legacy of love, hard work, and creativity will live on through them.
Sam embraced every day as an opportunity to learn, to teach, and to experience the joy of life's adventures.
Samuel will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. His impact on the lives he touched, the industry he served, and the family he cherished will be felt for generations to come.
As we bid farewell to Sam, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved.
