Samuel Doak Obituary
October 27, 1935 - January 9, 2026
Samuel S. Doak, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2025 at St Mary's Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rafferty Funeral Home, Moline with rosary recited at 3:15 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials can be made to St Mary's Church or Alleman High School.
Sam was born October 27, 1935 in Paris, Ill., the son of Sam and Minnie (Smith) Doak. He married Peggy Curl on June 22, 1957 in Paris, Ill.
Sam obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Illinois in Civil Engineering. He worked at Corps of Engineers in Rock Island and later McClure Engineering, East Moline.
He was a member of St Mary's Church, Rock Island Rotary Club, Fellow of ASCE, SAME Life, member of NRA, St Patrick's Society of the Quad Cities and Knights of Columbus Allouez Council 658, Rock Island. He was an avid hunter and fisher.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; children, Sam (Lis Figueroa) Doak, Aledo, Ill., Brian (Sue) Doak, Stover, Mo., Dr. Kevin (Therese) Doak, Herndon, Va., Dr. Mary (Phil Petrie) Doak, San Diego, Calif., Dr. Bridget Doak, St. Paul, Minn., John (Jill) Doak, Rock Island, Dan (Tom Zoubek) Doak, Lyons, N.Y., Margaret (Tony) Carton, Rock Island, Owen (Betty) Doak, Crystal Lake, Ill., Dr. Colleen (Don Gustofson) Doak, Davenport and Sheila (Iornenge Jagusah) Doak, Rock Island; 29 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin infant daughters, Mary Ann and Mary Elizabeth and granddaughter, Katie Rice.
