I met Sam in New York when I was interviewing for a job at Arthur Young in December 1980. He was one of the reasons I decided to begin my 38 year career at Arthur Young. I had the opportunity to work with him before and after his move to Houston. He was extremely intelligent, patient and always professional. I admired him and enjoyed working with him. He will be missed.

Sam was an outstanding and very generous & caring friend towards me for the last 13 years after we first met in Mexico while on vacation. He was always a gentleman and gracious about sharing his time, wealth of knowledge and experience, and mentorship with me. He was so smart, very funny, and a wonderful conversationalist. I have many fond memories of our travels to Mexico together and the frequent visits I made to see him in Houston. We had a lot of common interests including art, museums, galleries, ballet, cuisine, literature, architecture, and home interiors. We laughed incessantly and had tons of fun. I am immensely grateful to have known him and to have received the gift of his friendship. Losing Sam as a cherished friend leaves a huge void in my life. Like so many others, I will miss him dearly. He was an amazing man. Rest in peace, my wonderful friend.

Sad to hear Sam left us - what a great businessman and person. I loved working with Sam and was appreciative of his mentorship. High integrity, intellect, empathy, and communication skills are some of the great attributes I remember about Sam. We will miss you, Sam

When Jeni and I moved from Dallas to Houston in 1993 - after Sam and the team won the Continental Airlines account for the firm - he was a true gentleman and senior partner to me. We worked together for many years. Most importantly we keep up with each other after our time working together - having lunch, holiday partners, etc. He always made a point to stay in touch and I greatly enjoyed our lunches together. I will miss Sam and always be grateful that he came into my life. Scott Halliday

Sam was like a big brother to us when we were suddenly transferred to Houston in 1993. He watched over us and made us feel so very welcome. He was a class act and always a gentleman. I will miss him and honor his life. Jeni Ellis Halliday

I knew Sam through the Wharton Club of Houston, where he was an Advisory Board member who enjoyed sharing his love of culture by arranging activities for other club members. He was engaging, kind, and supportive, and encouraged me to take the leap when I was considering serving on the Wharton School board in Philadelphia. The Houston community will miss him!

Sam was a long-time friend, from recruiting me to the Wharton Club of Houston Board, to the board of Dominic Walsh Dance Theater. He was a guest at several of our family Thanksgiving feasts, and was always a welcome addition. I'll miss his smile and great sense of humor.
