Samuel "Doug" Walter Holliday, born on May 20, 1940, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, at the age of 85. Doug dedicated over 50 years of his life to his career as a machinist and was a committed volunteer firefighter for the Walnut Grove Fire Department for more than 30 years. His contributions to both the workforce and his community exemplified his dedication and service.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Doug was an avid supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide, showcasing his passion for sports and his loyalty to his home state. His interests were varied, but those who knew him best understood that his family was at the heart of his life.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Wanda Holliday; sons, Jerry Holliday (Marie), Jeff Holliday (Jennifer), and Shane Holliday (Sandy). He took great pride in his grandchildren: Jasmine Campbell, Kelly Beasley, Brittany Holliday (Bee), Shelby Tillman, Whitney Holliday, Brooklyn Niblett, Hannah Holliday, Austin Holliday, Cody Holliday, Brody Holliday, Josiah Holliday, Faith Holliday, and Hope Holliday. His family grew ever larger with the addition of his great-grandchildren: Sadie Campbell, Melodi Self, Grayson Self, Adrianna Beasley, Gatlin Beasley, Alice Beasley, Nathaniel Beasley, Caroline Beasley, Arya Tillman, Ezra Holliday, Emmett Holliday, Arabella Ashley, and Adalyn Collie, and Ollivander Holliday.
Doug also leaves behind a cherished group of siblings, including brothers Elton Holliday (Sandra), Ellis Holliday (Linda), and Mack Holliday (Dianne), and sister Ruth Benford. He is remembered fondly by a host of several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who were fortunate to know him.
Doug was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ethel Holliday, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He was also preceded by his father, Houston Holliday; mother, Junior Colvin Holliday; sister, Jennetta Tarvin; and brothers Nathan Holliday and Bill Holliday.
Visitation services for Doug Holliday will be held on January 24, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Snead Funeral Home, located at 170 Richman Drive, Snead, Alabama, 35952. The community is invited to gather and celebrate the life of a man whose legacy of hard work, community service, and love for family will be fondly remembered.
