COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Samuel Dennis "Tater" McBroom, a beloved figure in the Cookeville community, passed away peacefully at his residence in Cookeville on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on August 7, 1961, in Cookeville, Tater exemplified a life marked by dedication, compassion, and a deep love for family and friends.
Tater attended the Putnam County Schools and graduated from Cookeville High School. He proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed Camp Stanley in Korea, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a sense of duty and sacrifice that he carried throughout his life.
Professionally, Tater carved out a distinguished career, retiring as the Director of Maintenance for the Putnam County Maintenance Department. His work ethic and leadership were hallmarks of his career, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
In his personal life, Tater was known for his ability to light up any room he entered. His passion for life was evident in his interests, which included avidly following NASCAR and football. He had a remarkable talent for making memories with those he loved, whether through spirited conversations or shared experiences.
Tater is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Linda Spurlock McBroom. He was the proud father of two sons, Josh McDaniel of Cookeville and Eddie (Shawn) McDaniel of Murfreesboro, and cherished his relationship with his daughter-in-law, Laura McDaniel of Sparta. His family extended to his beloved grandchild, Gavin McDaniel of Sparta. Tater will also be missed by his brother, Charles (Carolyn) Harris, and his sister, Janice (Tim) Smith, both residing in Cookeville. He leaves behind a sisters-in-law, Betsy Spurlock (Randy) Cane of Mt. Juliet and Martha (Joe) Fell of Pennsylvania, and a niece, Rachel Moore of Mt. Juliet, as well as a close family friend, Omar Pimentel, who played an integral role in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Newton and Vivet Roberts McBroom, and his brother Richard Harris. Tater's legacy will live on through the love and memories he shared with his family and friends, a testament to a life truly well-lived.
Memorial Services for Mr. McBroom will be held at 11am Friday, March 14, 2025 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Lee officiating.
Internment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 9am until the time of services at the funeral home.
