Samuel McMillian Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clark Funeral Home - Neosho on Mar. 9, 2026.
Obituary lovingly provided by the family of Samuel McMillian....

Samuel Wayne McMillian was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on March 6, 2026 at the age of 73 following a tragic accident. Sam was born the fourth of five children in Tampa, FL to Francis McMillian Jr. and Laura Adele (nee Kampe.) He graduated from Summersville High School in Missouri in 1970. Then, while attending School of the Ozarks, he met the love of his life and future wife, Linda Frances Wyatt. He was drafted shortly thereafter into the Unites States Army. Sam and Linda were united in marriage on May 18, 1974 in Neosho, MO, and spent the next twenty years traveling to various military bases with their growing family. After his military retirement in 1993, the family moved to Calhoun, MO where he settled a homestead started by his father on sixty acres. There he reared his 4 children.

In the surrounding communities, he worked various jobs including cooking at Golden Corral and working for Rival Manufacturing and Special Products Company. His favorite was that of a United States Rural Route Postal Carrier, and oh the stories he could tell!

In 2008, he moved to Neosho, MO with his wife, where he worked at Walmart and made some lifelong friends. He retired from all work in 2014 to care for his wife during an extended illness and never left her side until her death in November 2016. He held onto the Scripture of Psalm 23, often repeating it late at night.

Sam was a man of many talents and interests including: flintknapping, jewelry crafting, blacksmithing, cooking, hunting, fishing, US military history, biblical study and rooting for his favorite teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He enjoyed playing cards with his Sister-in-Law, Susan Philliber, and his dear friends, Jay and Sheila Holt. If he wasn't at home, you could find him at the range with his best friend, Gary.

Sam is survived by his children, Amanda McMillian of Neosho, MO; Melanie (Aaron) Carroll of Ashland, MO; NC1(SW/AW) James McMillian stationed at NAS Meridian, MS; his older brother, Jim (Susan) McMillian of Pineville, LA; older sisters Linda Easton and Sharon Verburgt of Clinton, MO; his nephew, Brian Philliber, whom he loved as a son, and numerous other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, his younger brother Stephen, his oldest son Steven and infant daughter, Sarah, and his brother-in-law, Robert "Lennie" Easton.

Sam was a hardworking man, loving father and spouse and dutiful patriot to his country. He had a quiet, reserved nature and a very generous and loving heart. He was always available with a patient and sympathetic ear. His close friends will remember his infectious laughter. Samuel W. McMillian will be deeply missed, even though we are holding onto the promise in God's Word in 2 Corinthians 5:8.
