Samuel R. "Rudy" Opher

Mr. Samuel "Rudy" R. Opher of Middletown, NY died Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Garnet Health Medical Center. He was 73. He was born August 5, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Samuel R. Opher and the late Verdell Opher. Rudy was happily married to Emily on August 25, 1977 in Greenville, Orange County, NY. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. Rudy owned his own music entertainment company Magic Music Entertainment in Middletown, NY where he performed magic and DJ'd. He performed magic for Nancy Reagan among many others throughout the East Coast. He was a member of the Society of American Magicians and the Magic Club and taught magic classes in Middletown, NY. He also did charity events for St. Jude's Children Hospital. A family statement read: Rudy was a loving husband, an excellent father who never left us wanting for anything. He was always there to listen to us and give us advice. He had an answer for everything. He was supportive of his entire family. He was a strong loving father figure who became his son Michael's best friend and truly taught him what it means to be a man. His love for his family began with his siblings and continues on into his grandchildren. He was the best brother who was always there to lend a hand. His love, support and peaceful demeanor made us who we are today. We will miss him.
Surviving are: his loving wife Emily Opher, children: Tammise Hastings Stine and her husband Douglas, Theresa Harrell Bacchetta and her husband Edward, son Michael Opher, siblings: Bernice Mercer, Bertha Opher, Sandra Opher, Evelyn Jordan and her husband Gary, Marshall Opher, and Carol Opher, brother-in-Law Wayne Henry, Aunt Lillian Higgins, grandchildren Devin, Camden-Lei, and Conner-Lium Stine, and Hannah Harrell, and many loving nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Rudy is predeceased by his beloved daughter Synthia Marie Hastings, and his sister Beatrice Lillian Henry.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Cremation was held at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford, PA. Donations in Rudy's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, T.N. 38105-1942.
