Samuel Perok Obituary
Samuel Perok, 98, of Charleroi passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
He was born in Donora on October 5, 1925 and is predeceased by his parents, Valentine and Kate (Milek) Perok; brothers, Tom, Steve, Robert and Jacob Perok; twin sister, Theresa Nigro; and his beloved wife, Evelyn (Dean) Perok. Married of Thanksgiving Day in 1950, they celebrated 70 years of marriage shortly before her passing in 2020.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lorry and Randy Roblin; son, Larry Perok; grandchildren, Hunter Donovan Perok, Tylie Jo Perok and Tim Plavko; great-grandson, Liam Plavko; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Mary Ann Dean and Linda Ferro for their many visits and phone calls.
Sam was a devoted father and husband and lived for his children and grandchildren. He was a jack-of-all-trades and was called upon by many for his help throughout the years. He considered everyone to be a good friend. Sam was drafted by the Navy out of Donora High School in 1944. He attended boot camp at Great Lakes, IL and was transported through the Panama Canal to Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to LST 484 as a Gunner's Mate and spent his tour of duty transporting Marines to and from Pearl Harbor to battles in the South Pacific Marianna Islands. He was discharged mid-February 1946. His ship earned 5 Battle Stars and he was awarded 3 Bronze Stars. After returning from the war, he attended Allegheny Technical Institute of Pittsburgh, receiving a certificate in television repair and electronics. Sam was employed by the Page Steel & Wire Company and eventually the Charleroi Borough Street Department, from which he retired in 1989. He will be truly missed.
At his request, there will be a Blessing service for immediate family only. Entombment with full military honors will be in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022.
