Samuel Gilmore Robinson died on November 10, 2008 at the age of 82. “Tizo�, as he was affectionately known, was born on February 18, 1926. He was a life-long resident of New Orleans, a graduate of Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, The United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, and Princeton University. He served on a merchant tanker during WWII and as an Officer in the US Navy during the Korean War. He and Anne began their married life in 1952 in Hawaii where he was stationed, thus beginning a life long love of the Hawaiian Islands. He worked in the family business, Robinson Lumber Company until his retirement in 1993. He received, along with his brother, the Thomas F. Cunningham award from the World Trade Center of New Orleans in recognition of the contribution of Robinson Lumber Co. toward “better social, educational, cultural, and political understanding and cooperation among peoples of the Western hemisphere.� He also received outstanding alumni awards from the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and Woodberry Forest School. He was a past board member of the N.O. Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Woodberry Forest School. He was a member of the Louisiana Club, the Boston Club, the Southern Yacht Club, the N.O. Lawn Tennis Club, the Recess Club and several Carnival organizations. He was the son of the late Martha Gilmore Robinson and Robert Gibson Robinson, the brother of the late Pamela Robinson Plater , Robert G. Jr., John T. and Charles W. Robinson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Soule Robinson, and four children, Mary Price Dunbar (Tony), Samuel G. Robinson II (Marilu), William S. Robinson and Charlotte Pritchard (Reed), and four grandchildren, Mallory, Camille and Matthew Robinson and Samuel Dunbar. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State Street. Visitation will begin at the church at 12:30 PM. Burial in Metairie Cemetery will follow the service. Arrangements by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 9457 Brookline Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 or Adventures Within, 1250 South Ogden St, Denver, CO 80210.
