Born April 5, 1959, in Ellwood City he was the son of the late Raymond and Marybelle Minehart Sample.
Sam was of the Christian Faith.
He was a graduate of Seneca Valley High School class of 1977 and the University of Pittsburgh Class of 1981 with a degree in Education to teach History. He began working at Ames of Gibsonia, with the buyout by Hills, he continued to work for Hills until their buyout by Target. Sam continued working for Target, Cranberry Twp. in retail Management retiring on July 4, 2025.
Sam loved the outdoors, going hunting, fishing, golfing, especially watching the PGA Tour and cutting grass. He watched football and the Penguins. He enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and playing scratch off lottery tickets. He was a fan of Forensic Files, War movies and Westerns. He also loved his coffee and beer.
Survived by his companion of 25 years, Joy Rothwell, two brothers, Daniel (Pamela) Sample and Robert (Lynn) Sample, two sons, Douglas E. (Jen) Kress and Alan C. Kress, Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends of Samuel R. Sample who passed away on Wednesday morning October 15, 2025, will be received at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City, Pa on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 11 A.M.-1 P.M. Services will follow with Pastor Brandon Johns of St. Peters Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Evans City Cemetery.
The family has suggested memorial donations be made to Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC Passavant Hospital, 9100 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237
