Samuel Wrenn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brooks & White Funeral Home and Crematory - Roxboro on Feb. 18, 2025.
Samuel Ellison Wrenn "Sammy" passed away February 16, 2025 after a brief illness surrounded by his family.
On May 15th, 1962, Ben and Iris Wrenn welcomed to the world their fourth child, Sammy. Although teased by his siblings about his red hair, Sammy embraced it. As a young teenager, he spent many hours in his bedroom on his CB talking to truckers. His self proclaimed handle was "Panama Red."
Sammy was a beloved brother, son, grandson, cousin, nephew, uncle and friend. He spent his childhood amongst family and cousins on Broach Road like all the Wrenn children. Sammy was the constant shadow of his Uncles Albert and Nat Broach. The allure of memories were so strong, Broach road became home. Sammy was happiest fishing, hunting and riding horses. Family lore was he often professed to have fallen asleep when the big bucks came.
His first job, as a kindergartener, was to share his infectious laugh on a WRXO radio ad for the Tommy Bowes Show. Until his retirement, Sammy was a master of brick masonry and rock work; he was highly sought for both skills.
Sammy embraced his retirement era with the ease that most of us dream of reaching. You could find him most days hunting quietly from the front porch. However, his favorite thing to hunt was arrowheads of which he had an extensive collection. Sammy also loved restoring vintage metal furniture with the "son of his heart", Nick.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Adams Wrenn and Iris Broach Wrenn. He was also proceeded by his sister, Susan Leigh Wrenn and nephew Douglas Adams Wrenn. Sammy is survived by his siblings, Bruce A. Wrenn (Patricia) of Roxboro, Geena Wrenn Hicks (Richard) of Montezuma, NC, and Laura Wrenn Sapp (Randy) of Wake Forest; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, special friends Nick and Tamara Winstead. His grandchildren of his heart knew him by SamPaw: Syncere, Imani, and Sebastian Winstead.
Memorial graveside services will be conducted by his niece, Mrs. Katie Hicks Moser, on March 1, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Wrenn Family Cemetery, 1335 Wesleyan Road, Roxboro, NC. Family and friends are welcomed after the service at the home of Bruce and Patricia Wrenn, 923 Morton Pulliam Road.
Memorials may be made to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), 205 Regency Executive Park Drive, Suite 102, Charlotte, NC 28217. The family encourages everyone to enjoy nature and its gifts in Sammy's memory.
