Sandra Jean Andrews, lovingly known as Sandy, age 68, of Aiken, and formerly of Bluffton, SC, passed away on February 28, 2026. Born on September 2, 1957, to the late Richard and Shirley Ponec at Mount Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was raised in Cudahy, Wisconsin, where she spent her entire childhood as the middle of three sisters, Cindy Kitterman and Sue Schuster, both of whom preceded her in death.
On February 28, 2026, Sandy was welcomed into heaven by her beloved soulmate, John; her grandson, Paxton and the majority of her Ponec family. In her final days, her greatest wish was to go dance with her John in heaven. That wish has now been fulfilled; together, they are a “Spirit in the Sky,” dancing in eternal joy. Sandy was blessed to take her final beautiful breath with “Her Person” by her side. From the time of diagnosis until the very end, she was never alone, surrounded by love, strength, and unwavering devotion. She finally received all the Frills she deserved in her last days. Her first and greatest passion in life was her faith. Sandy often lovingly referred to herself as “The Hotline to God,” and those who knew her understood exactly what she meant. Prayer was her anchor, her strength, and her gift to others. Mrs. Andrews was a devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aiken, SC.
Sandy was fiercely independent, yet incredibly caring. She had a quiet voice, but a powerful presence. An exceptional listener, she made everyone feel heard, comfortable, and cared for. She loved to entertain and had a natural way of making gatherings warm and welcoming. She adored the sunshine and could never get enough of it. Whether soaking in the sun or playing a round of golf, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She possessed a remarkable gift for organization and attention to detail. Meticulous, hardworking, and highly dedicated, Sandy built a long and respected career in clerical and administrative support. She met the love of her life, John, while working at M&I Bank, a moment that would shape the rest of her story.
Throughout her career, Sandy faithfully supported many organizations, including Saint Eugene School, University School of Milwaukee, WFMR Radio, M&I Data Services, M&I Marshall & Ilsley Bank, First Federal Savings & Loan, School District of Shorewood, Milwaukee Yacht Club, Creative SHARP (MPS), HVA Products, HR Incorporated, Centro Primo, Spectrum Interiors, Spectrum Holdings, Spectrum Management, and Cserv Corporation. She was known for her dedication, enthusiasm, and eagerness to serve with excellence. Sandy was a proud graduate of Cudahy High School and continued her professional development through programs at Milwaukee Area Technical College, AmeriTrain Office Automation, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Administrative Support Personnel Program, and M&I Bank training programs.
She leaves behind her loving family, including: brother-in-law, Gary Kitterman (Prudy); her four stepchildren, John Clayton Andrews, Jr. (Erin), Jennifer Carol Shwingle (Todd), Kimberly Sue Bartell (Eric), and Jeffrey Kenneth Andrews (Kelsey); her cherished grandchildren, James Elizabeth Andrews, Saoirse Bronx Andrews, Noa Syx Andrews, Brady William Shwingle, and Carter John Shwingle. She is also survived by her four beloved cousins from the Ponec family, Michael Ponec (Jeanne), Kris Halwas (Mark), Kerry Gaura (Corey), and Kevin Ponec.
Sandy’s life was defined by faith, devotion, love, and service. She was the steady presence, the organized mind, the gentle voice, and the open heart in so many lives. Her legacy lives on in the comfort she gave, the prayers she lifted, and the love she so freely shared. Though she is no longer here in body, her spirit shines brightly, dancing in the heavens, wrapped in eternal love.
A private graveside service will be held at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling, IL. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, is serving the Andrews family.
