After a life well lived, Sandra (Sandy) Jane Cunningham Azevedo passed away peacefully on
March 31st, 2025 at the age of 86. Born on October 5, 1938 in Monterey Park, California, Sandy
was the beloved daughter of Marie and Russell Cunningham. She grew up in Santa Maria,
California and later moved to Wasco, California where she raised her family.
Sandy's greatest joy came from her family. Her love extended through generations as a
daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved cheering on her
children and grandchildren at FFA, sports, theatrical events, and science fairs, picking out the
perfect presents, and hosting family gatherings where she would make bunny cookies, angel
food cake, and tea time tassies. Sandy enjoyed reading a good book, trying out new recipes,
and going on walks with her dear friend, Sandy Honea.
For over 40 years, Sandy dedicated her professional life to Certis Biologicals. Her commitment,
diligence, sense of humor, and creative Halloween costumes made her a valued colleague and
friend to many. She took great pride in her work and the relationships she built over her long
tenure. Sandy retired from Certis in early March 2025.
Sandy's legacy of love will be carried on by her children: Kim, Kristi (Dale), and John (Alma); her
grandchildren: Jeff (Claire), Stefanie (Brett), Melissa (Jason), and Therese; great-grandchildren:
Joseph and Callen; sister-in-law, Cleta, and all those who knew and loved her. She is now
reunited with her dear parents, Marie and Russell, and her siblings, Anne and Bruce.
The family will hold a private celebration to honor Sandy's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to Hoffmann Hospice in Bakersfield, CA. Let's remember Sandy by
being kind to others
