Sandra Bethune Obituary
Sandra J. Bethune
05/05/1945 - 05/24/2025
Sandra Jean Bethune (who many know as "Sandy") passed away on May 24th, 2025 after an 80 year life journey. She was born on May 5, 1945 in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas, before embarking on her final journey to the Lord's embrace on May 24, 2025, in Austin, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family.
Sandy was a cherished daughter to her late parents, Anita and Robert Bruce, and a loving sister to her departed brother, Robert Bruce. Her legacy lives on through her devoted daughter, Jessica "Nikki" Day, her beloved son-in-law, Jason Day, her treasured nephew, Paul Bruce, and her cherished granddaughters Winter Lomme, Falon Van Fossen, Skye Wickersham, and Jacei Ziemann. Also survived by her are Sandy's precious great grandchildren: Griffin Wickersham, Hadley Ziemann, and Lily Wickersham.
A proud alumni of West Texas State University, Sandy earned her Bachelor of Arts in History, showcasing her love for the stories and lessons of the past. She dedicated herself to the education of young minds for nearly a decade, instilling in them a knowledge of historical facts. Following her passion for education, she worked at the county clerk's office in Midland, Texas, where she served her local community. Her journey eventually led her to Hobby Lobby, where her love for arts and crafts found a home until her retirement; often buying her daughter so many decorative surprises that at times she's forget to give them to her.
Sandy's love for life was evident in her time with her family, her church, and her friends. She attended Alamo Heights Babtist church in Midland, TX for many years and found great comfort in this community.
Sandy enjoyed several hobbies but it's difficult to think of her without noting how much she loved watching TV. Her daughter has fond memories of watching Star Trek with her as a child and recalls her mom enjoying many crime dramas, Popular TV shows, and game shows which she watched later in life to "keep her mind sharp"; with her favorite game show being "Press Your Luck"
Family trips were a source of immense joy for Sandy, creating memories that would be cherished for generations. The quality of Sandy's life grew in terms of warmth and joy during the last few years when she was able to travel with and spend daily quality time with her daughter, son in-law, and granddaughters.
As we lay Sandy to rest, we do so with heavy hearts, but also with a spirit of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with her. Let us find peace in knowing that she is now in the company of angels, reunited with her family members who have passed in the eternal embrace of our Lord.
We are comforted by the words of the Good Book, which assures us that to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Sandy's season with us has come to an end but the memories created with her will continue to warm our hearts and her spirit will live on in those who knew her best.
A funeral service will be held at Harrell funeral homes in Austin, TX Friday May 30th at 11:00AM.
A graveside service will take place the following day Saturday May 31st in Alanreed, TX at Alanreed cemetery at 1:00PM.
