On January 3, 2024, Sandra Stevenson Brown, beloved mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin; transitioned to her eternal resting place. Sandra Stevenson Brown was the oldest daughter born to the late Catherine Jackson Stevenson and the late Willie Lee Stevenson, Sr. She was preceded in death by her eldest grandson, Justin LaDarius Battiste.
Sandra was a native of Mobile, Alabama and a graduate of Toulminville High School class of 1969. After graduation, Sandra began her collegiate studies at the University of South Alabama in Physical Therapy. In 1971, Sandra married Murville Brown of Mobile, Alabama, and through their union, became the proud parents of Antalon LaDarius Stevenson and Jerel Kendall Brown.
In 1974, Sandra relocated to Boston, Massachusetts where she worked for the Office of the Secretary of State in data entry. Sandra enjoyed her time in Boston but always dreamed of moving back to the south. She received her chance in 1979 when she received an opportunity to work for the Coca Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Sandra loved Atlanta but continued to dream of moving back to Mobile permanently. Her dreams of returning home were met, when she received an opportunity to work at the University of South Alabama in Administration, while continuing her studies in Physical Therapy. During her time with the University of South Alabama, Sandra received an even better opportunity to work for Bishop State Community College. While at Bishop State, she decided to take advantage of the free tuition and enrolled in Bishop State's School of Nursing. After passing the RN Exam, Sandra became a registered nurse in the State of Alabama where she worked as a RN for Cogburn Health & Rehab Center and finally Mobile Infirmary Hospital until retirement.
Sandra loved her family and she loved to travel. Whether it was attending a graduation for one of her granddaughters or visiting one of her sisters; Sandra loved and supported her family by attending as many family functions as possible no matter the location. She showered her kids, her grandkids, nieces, nephews, sisters & brother with unconditional love and support.
Sandra leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: two sons and two loving daughters-in-law, Antalon (Gloria) LaDarius Stevenson, Jerel (Samaritan) Kendall Brown. Four caring and devoted sisters; Patricia (Ray Charles) Hightower, Emelda Timmons, Leila Stevenson, and Suzette (Gregory) Leaphart. One loving brother, Willie (Michelle) Lee Stevenson, Jr. One devoted aunt, Bonnie Jean Jackson. Five beautiful grand-daughters, Jasmine (Marcus) Ward, Lea Freeman, Kyla Jael Brown, Janay Stevenson; Andi Stevenson; and Sania Freeman. Five great grandchildren, Marcus Ward, Jr., Julian Battiste, Maddix Ward, Ja'Layla Stevenson, and Za'Mir Stevenson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sandra will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to blossom through everyone she encountered.
