Sandra "Sandy" Akers Compton January 20, 1957 – January 5, 2026

Mrs. Sandra "Sandy" Akers Compton, age 68, of Butner Mill Road in East Bend, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Sandra was born on January 20, 1957, in McDowell County, West Virginia, to the late Jack C. Akers and Cordie Pressley Akers. Sandra was known for her gentle spirit and kind heart. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, meaningful connections, and in the loyal companionship of her beloved dog, Kira. She also loved collecting vintage metal cookie and candy tins, ceramic masquerade masks, and took great pride in nurturing and growing beautiful flowers, a reflection of the care and love she showed to those around her.

Sandra cherished the years she spent in Georgia with her late husband, Jerry. She devoted herself lovingly to his care and was always by his side, offering steady support as he worked on and restored cars. Those years they shared were filled with love and remain among her most treasured memories. Now, she is reunited with her beloved husband, Jerry where their love continues for all eternity.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack C. Akers, Jr. and Charles T. "Charlie" Akers; daughters, Jerri Sue Shumate, Regina Compton, and Deana DeFrank, as well as her sons-in-law, Johnny Shumate, Martin DeFrank, Jimmy Marshall and Glen Shrewsbury.

Those left to cherish her memory include children: Deborah Marshall of King; Cyndi Shrewsbury of Mocksville; and Gerry Compton (Debbie) of Yadkinville. She is also survived by her longtime friends, Brenda Sigmon and Doris Standen; her 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, who were her source of pride and joy; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandra will be remembered for her loving heart, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy of love, compassion, and faithfulness will live on in all who were blessed to know her.

A private Celebration of Life for Sandy is being planned by the family for a future date.
