Sandra Cooney Obituary
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday March 26, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, where her family will greet friends prior to the mass from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.
Sandra was born on October 10, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa to Vincent and Emma (Iseli) Cooney. She graduated from Regina High School in 1968 and went on to attend Iowa City Commercial College. Sandy worked in the Towncrest Area of Iowa City as a bookkeeper before starting her own business in Bookkeeping and Accounting which she did for many years.
Sandy had a genuine love for all animals, especially for her pets over the years. She also enjoyed quilting and genealogy. Above all, Sandy loved spending time with family, especially her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who meant the world to her.
She is survived by her sisters Carolyn Vogel and Arlene (William) Hotz; longtime friend Rita Griffin, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Robert Vogel.
