Emerson Funeral Home - JonesboroSandra Kay Deeds, age 84, passed away on November 14, 2025, at the Phil & Flo Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born on November 4, 1941, in Hammon, Oklahoma, to Dee and Catharine Clark.
Sandra grew up as the oldest of five children and helped care for her younger siblings. Her family later moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma, where she formed many treasured childhood memories. She attended high school in Sentinel, Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Richard Deeds. Sandra and Richard married in 1959 and remained devoted to each other until his passing in March 2024.
Sandra earned a master’s degree in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She worked for 27 years as a teacher until her retirement in 1995, beginning her career as an elementary school teacher and later serving many years as a special education teacher. She taught in the Eldorado, Mountain Park, and Erick school districts. Throughout her career, Sandra was known for her gentle and patient teaching style and her dedication to her students. She was an active member of the Phi Delta Kappa educators’ sorority both during her career and in retirement.
Sandra was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Richard raised two sons, supporting their education and encouraging them throughout their lives. Together they enjoyed camping and boating, especially when joined by their children and grandchildren.
Sandra was an avid reader throughout her life. She especially enjoyed books on history, along with adventure and romance novels, and she always had a stack of books nearby.
After retiring, Sandra and Richard moved to the countryside near Cordell, Oklahoma, where they enjoyed gardening, working around the property, and caring for their dogs and cats. Sandra continued to share her love of teaching by volunteering at her local Methodist church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and by offering private tutoring. She was a lifelong Christian and a member of the Methodist Church, including many years of attendance at the church in Cordell.
Due to Richard’s declining health, he and Sandra moved from Cordell to the Oklahoma City area in 2020 to be nearer to family and medical care. Following Richard’s passing in 2024, Sandra moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to be closer to her youngest son, his wife, and their daughters.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Deeds; her parents, Dee and Catharine Clark; her stepmother, Millie Clark; and her brother, Philip Clark.
She is survived by her sister, Laura Prewitt, and her husband, Bob, of Cordell, Oklahoma; her sister, Brenda O’Neal, and her husband, Andrew, of Fremont, California; and her brother, Jimmy Clark, of Fremont, California. She is also survived by her sons, Mark Deeds and his wife, Andrea, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and David Deeds and his wife, Tracy, of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Her grandchildren are Mary Bullock (Stephen), Derek Deeds (Kaitlyn), Sarah Cullison (Jacob), Dylan Deeds (Abby), and Kylie Deeds (Ben Weiss). Her great-grandchildren are Isaac Cullison, Camryn Deeds, and Kelsey Deeds. Two more great-grandchildren are expected in 2026.
A remembrance gathering will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Cordell First United Methodist Church at 216 S Glenn L English St, New Cordell, OK 73632. Food will be provided.
