Sandra Egli Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Services of Iowa at Ankeny Memorial (MSI) from Mar. 11 to Mar. 20, 2026.
Sandra "Sandy" Egli, 73, of Ankeny passed away peacefully, March 6, 2026, surrounded by family in Maricopa, AZ.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd).

Sandy was born October 4, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Glenn Arthur and Eileen Louise Sommer. She attended East High School in Waterloo and continued her education at Allen College in Waterloo. Sandy worked as an LPN in Waterloo prior to moving to Des Moines. Sandy furthered her education, obtaining her RN Degree at Des Moines Area College in 1975. Upon completion of school, Sandy began her nursing career at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. She worked many years in the ICU, CCU, and Outpatient Surgery. She finished her career by retiring from On With Life in Ankeny, IA. She met some of her lifelong friends through her work career.

Sandy married the love of her life, Jeffrey Egli, in 1988. They were blessed with three amazing children, Nathan, Lyndsey, and Abigail.

Sandy took great enjoyment in spending time with her family and attending vacations with Jeff and her grandchildren. She enjoyed working out and spending time with friends from her local gym, lunch outings with former co-workers, and of course, a good Law and Order SVU episode. Sandy loved all the animals she had over the years. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, a beloved RaRa to her grandchildren, her love for her friends, her firecracker personality, and wonderful sense of humor.

Sandy is survived by her son, Nathan (Kristina) Lewis of Maricopa, Arizona; her daughters, Lyndsey and Abby (Travis) Taylor of Huxley, IA; her grandchildren; her sisters, Linda Schulz of Madison, WI and Patty Sommer of Cedar Falls, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Eileen Sommer, and her husband, Jeffery Egli.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Memorial Services of Iowa, P.O. Box 909, Ankeny, IA 50021.
