Sandra Faye Simons Frankin (Sonnie Faye) of Ovilla/Red Oak, TX, passed away on September 11, 2024.
Sandra was born on March 27, 1939 in Dallas to John and Eula Faye Simons. She married Joe Marion Franklin Sr., also of Dallas, on February 9, 1957. They started their family in Dallas and she was an avid supporter of her children’s activities in Pleasant Grove. In 1972 she was awarded Texas Life Membership in the PTA at Julius Dorsey Elementary School where she avidly participated in the school activities. In 1976 The Family moved to Ovilla, TX. where she continued to support her children and grandchildren in their activities. She was involved in the Red Oak Pee Wee Football, Baseball, and Soccer Associations. Sandra was involved in activities in Ovilla where she served on the City Council for 4 years from 1978 to 1982. In 1987 Sandra began working at the Red Oak ISD in the High School Cafeteria and later moved to the Red Oak ISD Administration Office working in the child nutrition department. In 2009 she retired from ROISD with 22 years of service. Throughout her life she would give the “Gift of Life” by donating her rare blood type, B/Rh Negative, at Wadley Blood Bank now known as Carter Bloodcare. Sandra and Joe were LOYAL Dallas Cowboy fans from the Cowboys beginning. They were season ticket holders until 2008. Attending games in Irving at Texas Stadium until they both aged and were no longer able to attend. The Sonnie Faye reference was given to her in her early childhood by her brothers and that name stuck with her throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband/soulmate, parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters, and her first grandson.
