Sandra Hayward "Sister" was born in Camilla, GA to the late Uris Hayward and Sally Mae Brown–Hayward. She was educated at University HS and Rutgers College. She continued her education efforts later in life in Kean University's African American Studies Program.
Sandra joined the longstanding, civil rights organization, People's Organization for Progress. Growing frustrated with the lack of Black History education provided in the educational system, she founded a children's program called POPCORN Kidz, standing for People's Organization for Progress' Children Of Right Now. This program (featured in TIME Magazine) educated the youth of all races and ages on true African-American history with featured speakers such as civil right leaders, senators, congressmen, and authors who came to educate children and speak to them as adults and answer their poignant questions.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memories and share her legacy:
Daughter: Natia
Granddaughter: Sara
Sisters: Nettina and Anita
Nephews: Na'eem, Charles, and Andre'
Grands: Dillon and Kori
Her family in Georgia, People's Organization for Progress, and her POPCORN Kidz
