Sandra J. Johnson, age 86, of
Marion, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, IL.
She was born on December 14, 1939 in
St. Louis, MO to Howard and Mary (Wieneke) Ozment.
On August 5, 1962, Sandy married Robert "Bob" Johnson in
Lebanon, IL and together they shared nearly 57 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on December 18, 2020.
As a child, Sandy's family moved from St. Louis to
Lebanon, IL and she grew up there. She was a graduate of Lebanon High School and continued her education at McKendree College, earning her degree in education.
She started her career teaching in Highland, IL for a year and then later in the Carterville, IL school system. Sandy then taught for the remainder of her career, teaching Kindergarten and 2nd grade, in the Marion Unit 2 School system for nearly forty years, primarily at McKinley and Lincoln Schools.
Sandy was a member of First Church of God of Marion. In her younger years she loved to bowl and play golf. She loved her three cats and playing Woodoku on her phone. Besides her love for the Lord, she loved her family most of all. Many precious memories have been created that will now be cherished by those she leaves behind.
Survivors include a son, Scott Johnson of DuQuoin, IL; her sister, Phyllis Gulati of Jacksonville, FL; brothers-in-law, Bill Johnson of Murphysboro, IL and Mike Blue of Shelbyville, TN; and nieces and nephews, Ann Haney, Bill Johnson, Lynne (Roger) Rains, Lori (Charles) Hoskins, Rebecca Vogt, and Steven Keith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Mark Johnson; sister, Debra Vogt; sister-in-law, Mary Blue; brother-in-law, Diljit Gulati; and nieces, Jennifer (Gulati) Swanson, and Pam Blue.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street,
Marion, IL.
The visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Following the time of visitation on Tuesday, the funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roy Pepmiller officiating.
Interment will follow in Reevesville Cemetery near Vienna, IL.
