Obituary published on Legacy.com by Summers Funeral Home - Ustick Chapel - Meridian on Feb. 24, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sandra "Sandy" Laws.
Sandy was born in
Nampa, Idaho, on April 4, 1946, to John and Marie (Jessen) Scheuffele, the third of four children. She joined her brother Ron and sisters Joan and Ardie. During her formative years, the family moved thirteen times in twelve years to accommodate their father's employment in construction. This was difficult for Sandy, as she often said that just when she made a new friend, it was time to move again. Despite the challenges, she frequently made the honor roll and participated in drill team during high school.
After graduation, Sandy briefly attended Utah State University before returning to Idaho to pursue a career as a hairdresser. She married Ron (Jon) Laws in October 1966 in Twin Falls and welcomed her first daughter, Kim, in 1967. Following their divorce, she moved to Boise to be closer to family.
Sandy began a thirty-year career with the State of Idaho, starting as an office clerk and advancing to personnel officer for the Department of Corrections and the Department of Lands, from which she retired. She received accolades for her dedication and administrative excellence.
Sandy's life was marked by challenges, which she met head-on and without hesitation. She endured a difficult marriage and raised her daughter as a single mother-no small task. In the mid-1970s, she purchased her first home, an ambitious goal for a single mother with one income. Through tenacity and determination, she made it happen.
As a homeowner, Sandy flourished. She filled her home with the things she loved: cats, plants, macramé, music, and art. Her green thumb was evident everywhere. She was often found talking to her ferns and rubber tree plants, gently wiping their leaves to keep them happy. She enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of the vegetables she harvested from her backyard for dinner.
Sandy's best friend and partner in crime was her little sister, Ardie. Born just fifteen months apart, they delighted in one another's company and did nearly everything together-including raising their children. Many Saturday nights were spent at Sandy's house assembling jigsaw puzzles with Ardie while Kim and cousins Scott and Jeff played board games and shared a big bowl of popcorn.
With the arrival of her first grandchild in 1990, Sandy's heart expanded even more. She was enchanted by her granddaughters, Shay and Skai, and gave 150% to her role as Grandma. Sandy and Shay shared many adventures, including a cruise down the Rhine River for Shay's graduation. There was always something happening at Grandma's house, especially during the holidays as she prepared for her annual Christmas Eve party.
Sandy found joy in simple pleasures-reading, gardening, sewing, baking, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. She could usually be found with a kitty on her lap,
whether it was hers or someone else's. She had a way with animals, who absolutely adored her. She devoted countless hours to creating beautiful quilts for her loved ones. We are blessed to have the treasures she lovingly and painstakingly made for us.
One of the most meaningful decisions of Sandy's life was placing her beautiful daughter, Laurie, for adoption with Gene and Carolyn Herzinger. She maintained a warm, loving, lifelong relationship with them and was deeply grateful for the family they became.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Kim (Donny) Lewis; granddaughters Shay (Ika) Castro and Skai (Azium) Weeks; grandchildren Madisyn and Tanner Lewis; and great-grandson Rowan Weeks. She is also survived by her daughter Laurie (Mike) Bachmann; granddaughters Rachel and Katelyn; grandsons Johnathan and David; and nephews Mike Scheuffele and Scott (Katy) Waldemar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Scheuffele; siblings Ron and Joan Scheuffele and Ardis Waldemar; nephews Mark Scheuffele and Jeff Waldemar; and great-grandson Skylar Weeks.
Mom will be remembered for her generostiy, strength, independence, and deep love for her family.
Her life celebration will be, fittingly, on her birthday, April 4th at 11:00 at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick branch.
While we take comfort in knowing Mom is free and is reunited with the family she missed so
dearly, we love her and will forever miss her.
Until we meet again.
