Sandra Linker, born Sandra Ruth Stone, lovingly named Mayna by her first granddaughter, this term of endearment quickly became the name she cherished most, not only from her grandchildren Courtney (Bryon), Lindsey, Jensen (Lauren), Karsen (Juliana), Jeremy (Allie), Justin (Caitlin), Riley (Rhian), Estelle (Alex), Chad, Caroline, great grandchildren (15+), great-great grandchildren (1+) but also countless friends and family who treasured her.
Mayna was raised in Attleboro, summered on the Cape, educated at Mt Vernon College and received a degree in special education, that she lovingly used as a hero for her sister Nancy, who had special needs. After becoming a mother, she settled in Clemmons where she raised her family.
Before she was Mayna, she was Mom, devoting her life to Kim (Craig), (Belah, who predeceased her), Jeff (Jeri), Suzanne (John), and Michelle, and several who she lovingly took in, another example of her endless love to give. The house on Briar Creek Road was constantly filled with her children and their friends, becoming a place of refuge, laughter, love, and loud music.
Her legendary bar held far more than bills. It was a gathering place layered with life and love handwritten notes, recipe cards, endless catalogs, photos of those she treasured, the Clemmons Courier, and if you were lucky, a warm batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies.
Mayna’s hands were rarely still, crafting, baking, and knitting for family and friends, a tangible reminder of her care and comfort. And you could always hear the jingle of her cherished charm bracelet that held the name of each of her favorites.
Besides family & friends, these are a few more of her favorite things: Cherries Cafe, consistently arriving late for breakfast group (or anywhere for that matter), her daily Starbucks and post office trips, watching golf, her Red Sox, anything lobster, Wrightsville Beach, talking on the phone, nonpareil candy, a good piece of cake, and her famous sentiment, WHATEVER!
A true matriarch, Mayna instilled the importance of family and staying connected to those you love. She was present for countless recitals, games, school events, graduations, showers, anything to be with her family. She created a tradition of summer vacations with all her 30+ family members, the final hurrah being her 90th birthday celebration at Kiawah Island.
As a final tribute to who she was, she slipped into eternal rest on Grandparents Day, September 7th surrounded by the love of her family.
From her children and grands: We love you, will always miss you, and thank God every day for you.
A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 13th at WinMock at Kinderton, 168 E Kinderton Way, Bermuda Run, NC 27006 from 4pm - 6pm. The family will hold a private burial.
