Sandra Diane Newnam Markham, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at her home with her husband by her side. She was born on November 17, 1946 in Alamance County to the late James Thomas Newnam and Virginia Dare Michael Newnam, and was the wife to Preston Lee Markham of 20 years who survives.
Diane retired from Alamance County EMS, Emergency Management Services. She had formerly worked in the past with the Gibsonville Police Department and was a Fire Fighter with Elon. Diane enjoyed volunteering at Alamance Regional Medical Center and arranging the monthly suppers for the Senior EMS Rescue members. She loved going to the Outer Banks, enjoyed collecting light houses and painting all kinds of rocks. Diane was always thinking of others, she was such a giving and caring person who will be dearly missed.
Survivors other than her husband, Preston include her children, Jeff McAlister and wife Laurie, Matt McAlister and wife Sharon, Jamie McAlister, Matthew Markham, Benjamin Markham and wife Newton; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Roberts; her brothers, Tom Newnam and wife Sharon and Mike Newnam and wife Sherry; several nieces and nephews; and her canine companion, Bella. Diane was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Miles and her canine companion, B.J.
Preston would like to express his gratitude to the staff and nurses with AuthoraCare for all their loving care and compassion that was shown to Diane and for their support that was given to him during Diane’s illness.
The memorial service to celebrate Diane’s life will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Robert Jones and Rev. Steve Hinton. The family will receive friends following the service.
