Sandra Buffington Matthews, 76, passed away on March 12, 2024 in Sevierville, TN while on vacation in the Galtinburg/Pigeon Forge area with her children and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Donald F. Matthews, Sr in 1993.
Sandra is survived by her daughter, Tina Townsend (Rick) and son, Donald Matthews, Jr (Adriene) and granddaughter, Grace Matthews, along with her four sisters, Deborah Carter, Linda Clevenger (Richard), Barbara Pitts, and Sonia Murray, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sandra was a Registered Nurse for over 25 years and was an avid reader along with being a comically technically challenged computer, iPhone and Facebook user. She loved helping and encouraging others and cherished her time with her family and friends. Her children have many fond memories of growing up on Stony Point where many of their friends would gather. She was always a cut up and loved to joke around with us all. While always ready with a listening ear, she also relished chasing us around the house to tickle us or pinch our bottoms ~ lol!
Sandra had longed for many years to visit and see the Smoky Mountains again and we know she was so very happy with the combination of us all being together, having enjoyed a drive through the mountains and even being able to enjoy a few chocolate drop spice cookies that our and her sisters' families have long had a fondness for, especially around the Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays!
Likewise, we are also thankful for the numerous family reunions and gatherings that we've had over the years as we know she cherished the time for us all to be together. Sandra's family is beyond grateful for the time we all shared prior to our mom's unexpected and sudden passing. Though extremely tough, we are blessed in knowing that mom's final days on Earth were happy & joyful and that she was surrounded with her family upon her passing. We take extreme comfort in knowing that her soul is in Heaven and reunited with our dad and other relatives and friends.
For all that have known and loved her, we know that she will be missed and fondly remembered.
Regarding services, they will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, located on 5668 Poplar Ave in Memphis, TN 38119. A visitation will be held at noon that day, followed by her funeral at 1:00 p.m.
For those unable to attend, her service will be webcasted and can be viewed online by clicking on the link; https://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/99074/hash:B738B796165A90C3
In lieu of flowers, charity donations on her behalf to either the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association would most certainly be cherished and appreciated.
With love and remembrance of our mom,
Tina and Donald, along with our families and Buffington & Matthews relatives.
