TOPSFIELD – Mrs. Sandra R. (Evitts) McGovern, 83, of Topsfield, beloved wife of the late Paul McGovern, passed away peacefully, February 14th, 2026 surrounded in love by her children.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Earle and Thelma (Greenough) Evitts. She was raised and educated in Topsfield attending Topsfield High School and graduated Masconomet Regional High School, as a member of the 2nd graduating class. She continued her education and graduated from Pierce Secretarial School in Boston.
Sandy had been employed as a secretary at the former G.T.E. Sylvania in Danvers. Upon marriage and beginning her family she focused her love, time and efforts towards creating a warm and loving home for her husband and children.
A long-time resident of the Town of Topsfield, Sandy was active in her children’s activities and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed spending her time reading, quilting, basket making and scrapbooking. Sandy and her husband raised Bassett hounds for many years. She loved her canine companions immensely.
Above all else, family always came first. She enjoyed the simple things in life. Being surrounded by those she loved, her family and friends, was when she was happiest. She was the kindest, most loving person you could ever know. She will be forever missed.
Sandy is survived by her children, Todd P. McGovern of Topsfield, Terri-lynne Tavares and her husband Jay of North Andover and Troy S. McGovern of Topsfield, her grandchildren, Matthew and Caroline, her niece Christina who was like a daughter, several nieces and nephews, her long-time dear friends, Patty Roy and Trish and Bruce Hudson and their family, as well as her dog, Sophie.
