Sandra Book Melancon

A Memorial Service will be celebrated Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11:30 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA for Sandra Book Melancon, 75, who passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at her residence in St. Martinville, LA.

Visitation will be observed on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 9:30 am until the time of service at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.

Sandra Jo Melancon was born October 4, 1949 in Lake Charles, LA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. Her trustworthy, reliable spirit opened the doors to many children. As a Nanny, her affection spread across the Lafayette community, affectionately being known as a second-mom, as she had the opportunity to watch them grow. Sandra's personality was filled with kindness, trustworthiness and accountability; thus, setting a foundation of well-being as a caregiver. She never met a seed that she could not bloom, not only in children but with her "green thumb." Gardening brought her fun filled days of pleasures. Her most precious treasures were her husband, children and grandchildren, which nothing else could compare.

Sandra is survived by her beloved husband of 37 beautiful years, Ronald Louis Melancon, of St. Martinville, LA; her daughters, Candace Cochran Clark and her husband, Tyrone, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Geneva "Kris" Pickens Rougeou and her husband, Benjamin, of Lafayette, LA; step-son, Timothy Melancon and his wife, Beth, of Thibodaux, LA; her brothers, Harold Book and his wife, Melanie, of Portage, IN and Randall Book, of St. Martinville, LA; her sisters, Cheryl Allen and her husband, Arvel, of Waverly, TN and Marie Delee, of Sylacauga, AL; step-daughter, Monique Melancon, of Thibodaux, LA; step-daughter-in-law, Stacey Melancon, of Thibodaux, LA; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert Morgan and Ruby Elsie Prather Book; her step-son, Keith Melancon; brothers, Donald Nelams and Terry Book and brother-in-law, Jerry Delee.

The family wishes to thank the St. Martinville community for their support and prayers given to Sandra's family.
