Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service - Bridgewater on Jan. 27, 2025.
Sandra Phillips Landes Shull was born on March 11,1946 in Harrisonburg to the Late Raymond E. and Lucy (Hogshead) Landes, and went to be with her Lord on January 26, 2025.
Sandra graduated from Ft. Defiance High School class of 1964 and Woodrow Wilson Business School in 1966.
She was a member of Summit Church of the Brethren, where she served in the nursery for many years. Sandra, "Nanny" as she was known to many children, was the community babysitter for 25 years, creating lasting relationships with so many children. She delighted in seeing her "babies" growing up, getting married, and having children of their own. While at Summit, she also served as chairman of the Ladies Fellowship, where she gave much of her time helping to plan and serve church meals and gatherings, funeral meals, and other community events. She will also be remembered for her wonderful, sweet tea she made for all the gatherings, both in the church and community. She also loved working in her gardens, canning the harvest every year to enjoy during the winter months. From her flower garden, she delighted in decorating her home and church with the beautiful floral arrangements. She was thrilled to be co-chair of Summit's altar committee with Audrey Slaven and enjoyed their loving and lasting friendship. She loved to travel, whether a ride in the countryside with her family, a motorcycle ride with the gang, a bus trip to see a play, or a cruise to see faraway places. Her favorite cruise, however, was being able to take her children and grandchildren on a cruise to celebrate her and Gary's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
The Shull family would like to extend our love and gratitude to Sandra's caretakers at White Birch Communities in Harrisonburg. While it was a hard decision to place her outside of the family's care, the folks at White Birch quickly became friends and family, and we know that Sandra was well cared for and loved.
Most of her life was devoted to her husband and children. She loved being at home for her children and is remembered for always having a delicious meal ready when Gary came home from work.
Sandra married Gary W. Shull June 18, 1966, who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Ervin (Angela) Shull, Jeanette Shull, and Kevin Shull; her grandchildren, Sydney Shull and fiance Jake Klerer, Trent and Cassidy Shull, and Emery Shull; sisters Margie Moore and Maralee (Richard) Reeves; numerous nieces and nephews, and faithful dog Kasey.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
A service celebrating Sandra's life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Summit Church of the Brethren with Rev. Tim Craver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
