Sandra L. Szeliga

Visitation for Sandra L. Szeliga, 78, of Lake Zurich, will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. Family and friends will meet directly at St. Francis de Sales Church, 33 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich on Monday, August 18, 2025, for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. The Interment will follow at the Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago, IL.

Sandra L. Szeliga (Hellner) died on August 6, 2025 at the age of 78. Sandra is survived by her husband, John I. Szeliga; her two children and their spouses, John C. Szeliga (Tracy), and Jennifer L. Szeliga (Jim); her four grandchildren, Jacob Szeliga, Madelyn Szeliga, Sophia Seloover, Sydney Seloover; her sister, Karen H. Perry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl Hellner and Linnea S. Hellner (Soderstrom).

Sandra was born on November 4, 1946 in Chicago, IL to Carl Hellner and Linnea S. Hellner (Soderstrom). Sandra was born and raised in Chicago near Wrigley Field with her parents and her younger sister, Karen. Some of her favorite childhood stories included playing kick the can in her alley or walking to Belmont Harbor on a summer day with her family. After she graduated from Lakeview High School she knew she loved working with numbers so she got her first job at a bank and eventually held different positions at Combined Insurance.

She met the love of her life and married John I. Szeliga on October 3, 1971. Once they had children, Sandra devoted her time to her kids, Johnny and Jenny. She became a certified Medical Billing Specialist once her kids were older and enjoyed the work that she did. Sandra always made time to participate in Bible study groups as she was very devoted to her faith in God. Above all, Sandra loved her family so much. Her happiest moments came from time shared with her husband of 54 years, her children and her grandchildren. Sandra was always known to be happy, positive, kind and she loved her family and friends unconditionally.
