Sandra Kincannon Vlcek, 80, of
Gray, TN passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at home surrounded by family and enveloped by love.
Sandra was born in
Vicksburg, Mississippi to James Tex Kincannon and Elsie Porter Kincannon. She was the loving older sister of Katherine Kincannon Campbell.
Her father's career with the Department of Agriculture took the family to the Caribbean for three years during the early '50's and eventually returned to the States in 1957 and settled in Alexandria, VA. Sandra went to high school at Robert E. Lee and shortly after high school, married and had three beautiful children – Meg Folz (preceded in death), Joseph ("Jim") Folz, and Jonathan ("Jon") Folz. She began her civilian service with the Army in the mid-70's as a secretary but through her drive and tenacity, she found her passion with the Army Family Action Plan (AFAP), for which she was Director until her retirement in 2003.
During the early years of her career, she fell in love with Joseph ("Joe") Vlcek, and they were married on July 8, 1979, in
Fort Washington, MD. Shortly thereafter, they adopted Jessica ("Jessy") Vlcek and Katherine Murray and the "Tacky Family" was established. Joe and Sandy had a beautiful 44 years of marriage filled with fun and adventure; whether it was hiking the Billy Goat Trail, visiting Luray Caverns, or hitting the road to see new sights and simply enjoying each other's company.
Throughout her life she had a passion and zest for Jesus Christ and the scripture that flourished in the Oxon Hill United Methodist Church (OHUMC). Through that passion, she enjoyed being a Sunday School Teacher for children / youth, a Young Adults Youth leader, a Vacation Bible School Leader, an Adults Bible Study Leader and so much more. She enjoyed teaching children the love of Jesus Christ and any child that crossed her path was one of her very own. Even through their move to
Gray, TN in 2019, she maintained her strong ties with OHUMC while establishing her new faith-based home at Gray UMC. In addition to her love for the church and fellowship, she spent many years as a Boy Scout Den Leader and a Girl Scout Troop Leader.
Sandra is survived by her husband of forty-four years, Joe Vlcek; her sister, Katherine Campbell (Jack Campbell); two sons, Jim Folz and Jon Folz (Beth Folz); and her two daughters, Jessy Vlcek and Katherine Murray (Lance Murray); grandchildren, Josh Logie, David Logie, Erica Fraser, Connor Folz, Kevin Petruska, Megan Petruska, Abby Folz, and Adam Shinko and many great grandchildren. Her niece, Erin Campbell, and nephews, Patrick Campbell (Kate Campbell) and Murray Campbell (Janna Campbell).
She has a legacy here on earth as well as in Heaven for which she is proud. Her deceased family members who welcomed her Home include her parents, James T. Kincannon and Elsie Porter, along with her daughter, Margaret ("Meg") Folz.
