Sandra S. Young, 77, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Centre in Wabash.
Born on July 27, 1948, in Jonesboro, Indiana, Sandra was the daughter of Leslie and Mildred (Isenbarger) Kirby. She graduated from Marion High School and dedicated many years of her life as a teacher's aide with Marion Community Schools, where her love for children shone brightly.
On June 13, 1989, she married the love of her life, Raymond Paul Young. Sandra was a devoted member of The Salvation Army Church, where she once served as a preacher. She stepped away from ministry to care for her beloved parents, embodying her natural gift as a caregiver.
Sandra had a deep love for crafting, gospel music, and animals--especially her cherished dog, Mugsy. Though she had no children of her own, she found joy in babysitting and nurturing others, always offering warmth and kindness to those around her.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Paul Young; nephews, Robert (Elizabeth) Van Hoosier and Victor (Debby) Van Hoosier; nieces, Cindy (Calvin) Horner, Brenda (Derek) Geiken, and Donna (Greg) Van Hoosier; sisters-in-law, Kitty (Bert) Young, Loretta Young, Theresa Strefling, and Patty (John) Koval; brother-in-law, Michael (Mary) Young; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
Sandra was preceded in death by her sister, Betty (James) Van Hoosier; her parents, Leslie and Mildred Kirby; nephews, John D. Van Hoosier and Jim Van Hoosier; and niece, Linda Holsinger.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Monday, October 13, 2025, at The Salvation Army, 359 N. Bradner Ave., Marion, IN. A celebration of Sandra's life will follow at 11:30 am, with Envoy Ray Daniels officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 359 N. Bradner Ave., Marion, IN 46952 or Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
