Sandy Hamaydi

Sandra Margaret Hamaydi (Sandy) passed away peacefully on the afternoon of November 17 at the age of 72, surrounded by her loving family.
She was one of many children born to Gerda and Ernest Geiger of Cranford, NJ. Upon graduating from Cranford High School in 1970, she attended the Berkeley College School of Fashion. In 1987, she would use this education and years of retail experience to combine forces with her mother and sister Joanne to open Geiger's Fine Women's Apparel in the heart of downtown Cranford. Years later, the Cranford Chamber of Commerce would award the Geigers with their "Pride in Cranford Award", for their hard work and devotion to the Downtown Management Corporation. This work helped lay the foundation for the attractive shopping community that is now well-known throughout the state and is part of Cranford's unique sought-after charm.
Along the way, Sandy was wed and gave birth to her son, Allen Hopkins; also a graduate of CHS (93), he now resides in Wilmington, NC.
In October of 1985, she married William Hamaydi (Billy) and they spent 40 loving years together, eventually settling in the Lions Head Community in Brick, NJ. She loved spending time on the beach or by the pool with a cocktail in hand and a friend nearby. Long after her career in retail, she was always in style and known for her flare for fashion!
Her courageous battle with Alzheimer's came to a peaceful end with her family at her bedside this week. Together with her husband to the left and her son on her right; brothers, sisters, niece, and nephew in the room - she took her final breath surrounded by love and departed this life as we know it.
Sandy is survived by her husband Billy, her son Allen Hopkins, her sisters Joanne Sweeney (Don), Lori Prussack (Mike), Theresa Geiger; her brothers EJ (Georgia), John (Ruth), and Robert (Linda). She was blessed with many nieces and nephews: Kathie, Nicole, Alec (aka Tommy), Eric, Juniper, Kelly, Todd, and Brett. She leaves Billy with their beloved four-legged rescue, Penny. She is predeceased by her parents Gerda and Ernest, as well as her sisters Connie Rush, Roberta KeFauver, and Valerie Thomson.
Visitation will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church St, Toms River, NJ on Saturday, November 22 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Sandy's Celebration of Life service will be at 4:00 PM.
