Mrs. Sandy Marlo Bates-Nelson, age 56, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 27th, 2025.
She was born October 8th, 1968, to the late Jesse Alexander Bates Sr. and Mary Ann Graves-Delane. Sandy attended both Chesterfield County and Petersburg public schools. She was employed as a Manager at McDonalds for many years and worked for Sabra Company for 12 years before her health declined and she retired.
Sandy thoroughly enjoyed arts and crafts and made many beautiful things for her family and friends. She also had a very strong and spiritual belief in God. She loved the Lord with all her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by: her grandmother, Virginia M. Graves; great grandmother, Mary Goodwyn; and two nephews, Tyrone M. Bates and Erik R. Bates.
Left to cherish her precious memories are: her husband, Michael A. Nelson; sons, LaQuan M. Bates (Keyasha Taylor), Darien D. Edmonds, Mondale Procise and step-son, Michael Dunning; one daughter, Alexis M. Nelson; sisters, Kimberly Knight Andrews (Joseph), Teresa White, Tanya Newton (Kevin); brothers, Jesse A. Bates (Karen), Gardner Bates and Sir Michael Bates; sisters-in-law, Angela Massenburg, Alphelia Jenkins, Bridget Jenkins, Melody Jenkins and Tonia Jenkins; and a host of many other relatives and friends too numerous to name.
The family would like to especially thank all the doctors at Bon Secours, Southside Regional and Trinity Hospice Care for the wonderful care given to Sandy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am, Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg. Interment will follow in the Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. Public visitation will be held from 10am-8pm, Friday, May 2nd, at the funeral home.
