Sanford Shirley Dease

With heavy hearts and fond memories, we celebrate the life of Shirley Dease-Sanford, who passed away on October 19, 2025, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 81. Born on January 26, 1944, in Darlington, South Carolina, Shirley lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community.

Shirley's lifelong passion for sewing was evident in everything she did, from meticulously crafting her own alterations to running The Bridal Veil, her cherished bridal shop in Charleston, South Carolina. Her talent and creativity touched the lives of many brides, turning their dreams into reality with grace and elegance.

A woman known for her great sense of humor, Shirley cherished her family above all else. Her warmth and wit lit up every room she entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. As a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she nurtured those around her with kindness and a generous spirit.

Shirley's faith was an integral part of her life. She was a proud member of Pisgah View Pentecostal Church, where she drew strength and solace from her community and shared her vibrant spirit with fellow congregants.

Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Furman and Annie Mae Boatright Dease, her husband M.E. "Buck" Sanford, and her four brothers and one sister, Shirley is now reunited with them in peace.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by her devoted daughter, Tammy Dease; grandchildren, Joshua Cota, Nathan (Kaitlyn) Cota, Tina (Brian) Hoffmann, and Calina (Sovan) An; and numerous great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward with pride. Her sister, Jane Nance, several nieces and nephews, and her close friend of over 50 years, Terry Watford, will cherish the joyful times shared with Shirley and hold dear the love she gave so freely.

A Memorial Service to honor Shirley Dease-Sanford's incredible life and legacy will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 27, 2025, in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Reverend James Donita officiating. We gather with gratitude for a life well-lived and draw inspiration from the love and laughter Shirley brought into our lives. Though she will be dearly missed, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts. Forest Lawn Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
