Santiago "Sonny" Sales Galvante, 93, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024. He was born in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines on December 30,1930 to Juan and Lucina Sales Galvante, whom he joins in heaven.
While in the Philippines, Sonny earned his Associates in Arts, Pre-Law, prior to joining the US Navy. He served the United States proudly for 45 years both in the US Navy as well as a civil servant. While in the United States Navy, he honorably served for 29 years as a proud submariner aboard the USS Plunger, USS Trumpet Fish, and the USS Russell before later retiring as a Chief Petty Officer, storekeeper. Continuing to serve his country, he then worked in Civil Service for 16 Years where he continued to leverage his logistics skills and attention to detail that served him well during his naval career.
Santiago was a member of the Catholic Church at Little Creek Base Chapel. He continued to serve the Filipino community as a Knights of Columbus at San Lorenzo Council 12378. In his free time, he enjoyed spending endless hours gardening, trips to the Casino, time with his grandchildren, enjoying friends and family at San Lorenzo, and traveling the world.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 64 years, Rosario Ocampo Galvante, son Sandor Galvante, daughter Gina Galvante Hughes and husband Kevin Hughes, sister-in-law Marichu Ocampo Tucay and husband Leonard Tucay, nephew Joel Tucay niece Jasmine Tucay Erguiza and husband Michael Erguiza, brother Ben Galvante, brother Manuel Galvante and wife Alice Galvante, grandchildren Kyle Hughes, Carli Hughes, Keagan Hughes, Landon Erguiza and Felix Erguiza.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown, Princess Anne Chapel on
Sunday evening, December 29, 2024 from 5-7PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hollomon-Brown, Princess Anne Chapel on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11 AM. A burial will follow at Colonial Grove Memorial Park in Virginia Beach. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.hollomon-brown.com
