Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vainieri Funeral Home on May 1, 2025.
Santo Joseph Cannizzo, age 92, passed away on Monday April 28, 2025. Sam, as he was better known, was born in Jackson Heights, N.Y., on March 20, 1933, to Salvatore and Madeline Cannizzo. He and his brother John lived there until both married. Sam lived with his wife Gloria in West New York and then moved to North Bergen in 1967, purchasing their first and only home. Sam is survived by his son Steven and wife Debbie, Paul whose wife Marylou passed in 2001, Carolyn and her husband Ron, and Thomas and his wife Vicki. Sam is predeceased by his loving and beautiful wife Gloria (2023) and his youngest daughter Christine (2004). Sam also has seven grandchildren, Jan, Jill, Phillip, Daniel, Alexa, Amanda, and Zachary, and five great grandchildren, Charlotte, Catherine, Claire, Eloise, and Emma, and one on the way
Sam was the gentle giant
His most notable life achievement is his family he loved them more than life itself.
Sam's passions were old movies (his favorite; Gunga Din) and sports, particularly the Baltimore (Indianapolis) Colts, and the NY Yankees. He loved to eat Italian food, read, and just spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends, of which he had many. He and my mom loved to drive to places they had never been and spend time in Florida when they could.
Sam was known for his generous spirit, his work in the banking industry and helping multiple businesses get started over the years. His acumen for numbers is legendary, he could solve equations in his head and figure percentages faster than a calculator. He thought little of it, but it was amazing to others. He was beloved by his coworkers, there was never a negative word about Sam Cannizzo.
Let the family know you care by leaving your condolences, favorite memories and thoughts and prayers on the Tribute Wall.
