Sara Jane Gardner Cockerill
August 12, 1930 - November 29, 2025
Sara Jane Gardner Cockerill, affectionally known by family as 'Mamaw' or 'Buggy', went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 29, 2025.
She was born on August 12, 1930 in Buena Vista, Virginia. She lived a full life of dedication and compassion. She devoted 45 years of her career as a phlebotomist at Fauquier Hospital, where she touched countless lives with her skills and kindness. After retirement, she continued serving her community as a volunteer with Hospice of the Piedmont and the Culpeper Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Her laughter and spunk made her a friend to so many who enjoyed every adventure with her!
Sara cherished her time spent with her family, who were the center of her world. She is survived by her sons, Gary (Deanne) Cockerill and Matthew (Cheryl) Cockerill; grandchildren Timothy Cockerill (Audrey), Bryan Coffey (Lindsay), Hannah Cockerill (Savannah), Kaytlin Houde (Warren), and Emma Cockerill; great-grandchildren, Brianna Cockerill (Jesse), Brandon Houde, Thomas Dawson, Brooks Coffey, Sydney Cockerill and Charleigh Coffey; and great-great granddaughter Willow Jenkins. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Johnny Gardner (Lelia) and brother-in-law Maynard Pritchett, Donna Houchins (Larry), as well as many special nieces, nephews and long-term dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Maizy Gardner, husband Alvin 'Buddy' Cockerill, beloved son Michael Cockerill, mother-in-law, Laura 'Nanny' Cockerill and her sisters, Dorothy Pritchett and Alice Troy.
Sara will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to others, her enthusiastic spirit, and the warmth she brought to everyone she met. Her passions for gardening, antique shopping and reading reflected her love of beauty, history, and simple joys. Until she was unable to attend regularly, she enjoyed time spent with her church family at Remington Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Remington Baptist Church, funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Blevins officiating with interment following at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bealeton and a reception following at the church. Moser Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Hospice of the Piedmont or Remington Baptist Church.
We are grateful and appreciative of the love and support offered to our family from The Culpeper, Hospice of the Piedmont, and our church families throughout this journey.
