In Loving Memory of Sara Pérez García
Sara Pérez García was born on October 9, 1963, in Juventino Rosas, Guanajuato, Mexico. A devoted Catholic, she was raised in the faith and lovingly passed those traditions on to her children. She was a dedicated mother, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and the most tender Abuelita to her ten grandchildren - a title filled with warmth and affection, spoken with the love only she could give.
Sara was deeply involved in the schools her children attended, especially in Mexico and Texas. She helped coordinate school paperwork, assisted with registrations, fundraised for exams and supplies, and even ran a small store on the school premises. She served as a vice president for a parent committee in Mexico, always stepping forward to support families and uplift her community. In Louisiana, she supported her children's schooling in a different capacity, always present and willing to help.
From 2008 to 2022, she worked in the agriculture and horticulture industry, where her extraordinary green thumb brought life to everything she touched. Sara nurtured delicate flower-bed plants - those that require patience, precision, and care - with unmatched skill. Ferns, roses, tulips, and countless other varieties flourished under her hands. She could take a seed, a broken branch, or the tiniest sprout and coax it into something vibrant and thriving.
Known for her generosity, Sara never met a stranger. She offered her time, her skills, and her heart to anyone in need. She gladly lent a helping hand to everyone, sometimes to the point that her daughter Monica would jokingly feel jealous when she lovingly called other children "mijos" and spoiled them with treats or small gifts.
She taught her children to cook her signature dishes - adored by family and friends - though only a lucky few inherited her unmatched culinary skills. Her catering brought joy to countless celebrations, filling homes and hearts with the flavors she poured her love into.
Sara was, above all, a fighter. She faced every challenge with courage, grace, and a warm smile. Even throughout her health journey, she remained deeply appreciative of her medical team. In her final moments, she held on with remarkable strength. All her children gathered around her, holding space for one another and loving her through every breath, as they waited for the eldest to arrive safely so the family could be complete. That final reunion was what her heart had been holding on for - allowing her heart to rest, knowing her children were all together.
On Monday, November 24, 2025, at 6:52 p.m., Sara Pérez García passed away at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, surrounded by love and prayer.
Her kindness, resilience, and selfless spirit left an enduring mark on everyone blessed to know her. She will be remembered forever for her love, her laughter, her strength, and the beautiful life she built through unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Sara is survived by her children: Javier (spouse Rene, children Grey and Ivy), Baltazar (partner Rayo, children Sarah and Sophia), Beatriz (children Denysse and Aysel), Guadalupe (children Jannizel and Jazziel), Diana, and Mónica Berenice. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cristian Silverio and Jesús, the children of María Dolores and her spouse Silverio (both deceased). Sara is further survived by her siblings: Teresa, Alejandro, Serafín, Braulio, José, Luis, Virginia, Sylvia, Rosario, Zenaida, and Eriberto, as well as her nieces and nephews.
In her final months, Sara was surrounded by her loving family - siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and daughters-in-law - who stood by her in faith, love, support, and devotion, along with the many friends whose lives she touched with her beautiful heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alicia García Almanza and Filiberto Pérez Belman; her brother, Nikolas Pérez García; and her children: twin sons (names unknown), Gloria Aguilera Pérez, Luz María Aguilera Pérez, and María Dolores Aguilera Pérez along with her spouse, Silverio Perez Cortez.
The pallbearers will be Javier Aguilera Pérez, Baltazar Aguilera Pérez, Alejandro Pérez García, José Pérez García, Serafín Pérez García, Luis Pérez García, Eriberto Pérez García, and Ramón Vargas.

Sara suffered from fibrotic interstitial lung disease, an illness that is notoriously difficult to pinpoint in cause and even harder to manage. Her care was primarily managed by the dedicated LSU Pulmonology team, with support from doctors at UMC New Orleans and Ochsner Medical Center. Most of the physicians caring for her completed their studies at LSU Health NOLA, which is why the family chose this institution for the endowment-to honor the team that played a central role in her care and to give back to their school.
Because she required very high levels of oxygen, Sara could not safely undergo many diagnostic procedures, including evaluation for a double lung transplant, as intubation or sedation would have been too risky. Her other organs were healthy, highlighting how specialized and critical her lung care needed to be. She relied on an at-home oxygen concentrator and oxygen tanks, as her needs exceeded what portable oxygen machines could provide. In the hospital, she received care with Heated High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and BiPAP machines, which provided essential respiratory support while keeping her comfortable and safe.
This endowment fund will support research and initiatives within the department, helping advance care and understanding for serious lung conditions, and potentially expanding opportunities for others facing similar challenges. The family hopes to raise $25,000 within a year to fully establish the fund, creating a lasting tribute to Sara's legacy and the impact of her journey.

Todos sus hijos se reunieron a su alrededor, apoyándose mutuamente y acompañándola con amor en cada respiración, mientras esperaban que su hijo mayor llegara a salvo para completar a la familia. Esa última reunión fue lo que su corazón había estado esperando -permitiendo que su corazón descansara, sabiendo que todos sus hijos estaban juntos.
El lunes 24 de noviembre de 2025, a las 6:52 p.m., Sara Pérez García falleció en Ochsner Medical Center, en Nueva Orleans, Luisiana, rodeada de amor y oración.
Su amabilidad, resiliencia y espíritu desinteresado dejaron una marca perdurable en todos los que tuvieron la bendición de conocerla. Será recordada por siempre por su amor, su risa, su fortaleza y la hermosa vida que construyó con su devoción inquebrantable a su familia y comunidad.
Sara deja como descendientes a sus hijos e hijas: Javier (esposo Rene, hijos Grey e Ivy), Baltazar (pareja Rayo, hijos Sarah y Sophia), Beatriz (hijas Denysse y Aysel), Guadalupe (hijos Jannizel y Jazziel), Diana, y Mónica Berenice. También le sobreviven sus nietos: Cristian Silverio y Jesús, hijos de María Dolores y su esposo Silverio (ambos fallecidos). Sara también deja como hermanos y hermanas a: Teresa, Alejandro, Serafín, Braulio, José, Luis, Virginia, Sylvia, Rosario, Zenaida y Eriberto, así como sobrinos y sobrinas.
En sus últimos meses, Sara estuvo rodeada de sus amorosos hermanos y hermanas, hijos e hijas, nietos, sobrinos y sobrinas, y nueras, quienes la acompañaron con fe, amor, apoyo y devoción, junto con los numerosos amigos cuyas vidas tocó con su hermoso corazón.
Falleció antes que ella: sus padres Alicia García Almanza y Filiberto Pérez Belman; su hermano Nikolas Pérez García; y sus hijos: gemelos (nombres desconocidos), Gloria Aguilera Pérez, Luz María Aguilera Pérez, y María Dolores Aguilera Pérez junto con su esposo Silverio Perez Cortez.
Los portadores del féretro serán: Javier Aguilera Pérez, Baltazar Aguilera Pérez, Alejandro Pérez García, José Pérez García, Serafín Pérez García, Luis Pérez García, Eriberto Pérez García y Ramón Vargas.

Jueves, 4 de diciembre de 2025: 6:00–10:00 p.m.

Se celebrará una Misa, oficiada por el Padre Marc A. Noel, en Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Mission, 10 LA-497, Forest Hill, LA 71430, a la 1:00 p.m. CST del sábado, 6 de diciembre de 2025. Tras la Misa, Sara será sepultada en Alexandria Memorial Gardens, 8855 US-165, Woodworth, LA 71485.

La familia Aguilera Pérez está estableciendo un fondo de dotación en LSU Health School of Medicine, Pulmonología/Cuidados Críticos, en honor a la valentía de Sara y los significativos desafíos médicos que enfrentó. Sara padeció opacidades en vidrio esmerilado, reticulares y enfermedad pulmonar intersticial no específica (NSIP) - condiciones pulmonares raras con muy poca investigación y sin causa identificable en su caso. Su cuidado fue principalmente manejado por el dedicado equipo de Pulmonología de LSU, con apoyo de doctores en UMC New Orleans y Ochsner Medical Center. La mayoría de los médicos que la atendieron completaron sus estudios en LSU Health NOLA, razón por la cual la familia eligió esta institución para la dotación: para honrar al equipo que jugó un papel central en su cuidado y retribuir a su escuela.
Debido a que requería niveles muy altos de oxígeno, Sara no podía someterse con seguridad a muchos procedimientos diagnósticos, incluyendo la evaluación para un trasplante doble de pulmón, ya que la intubación o sedación habrían sido demasiado riesgosas. Sus demás órganos estaban saludables, lo que subraya la especialización y criticidad de su cuidado pulmonar. Dependía de un concentrador de oxígeno en casa y tanques de oxígeno, ya que sus necesidades superaban lo que podían proporcionar los equipos portátiles. En el hospital, recibió cuidados con High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), CPAP/BiPAP y ECMO, un procedimiento salvavidas que actúa como corazón y pulmones artificiales para pacientes críticos. La tecnología ECMO específica utilizada solo estaba disponible desde hace 4–5 años, destacando lo avanzado y especializado de su tratamiento. La humidificación aseguró su comodidad y seguridad durante estas intervenciones, permitiendo que sus órganos descansaran y se recuperaran.
Este fondo de dotación apoyará la investigación y las iniciativas dentro del departamento, ayudando a avanzar en el cuidado y comprensión de las enfermedades pulmonares graves, y potencialmente ampliando las oportunidades para otros que enfrentan desafíos similares. La familia espera recaudar $25,000 en un año para establecer completamente el fondo, creando un tributo duradero al legado de Sara y al impacto de su trayectoria.
