Sara L. Haugen, 62, of Foxboro, WI, passed away May 16, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
She was born August 19, 1959, in Superior, daughter of Dr. Raymond E. Halverson and Carol J. Halverson.
Sara graduated from Superior Senior High School, class of 1977. After graduation she became a professional figure skater with the Ice Follies in South America. Upon returning to the United States, Sara attended the University of Wisconsin, Stout. Earning a degree in art education. She taught ceramics at the Duluth Art Institute, during this time she honed her craft and gained many close friends. Ceramics was a lifelong passion which guided many aspects of her life, from travels through Japan to years throwing pots and firing her kilns locally in Foxboro, Wisconsin. Sara was also a business owner in Superior, Wisconsin, owning and managing Pudges Tavern. Sara was known to many as a gifted artist, a patient lister, an avid rock collector and a serious naturalist. Sara's deep love of nature and gentle disposition could be seen each year as she raised Monarch butterflies, finding joy and fascination in watching the metamorphosis take place.
Preceded in death by her father, Dr. Raymond Halverson; her mother, Carol Halverson; and her brother, Christopher Halverson.
Sara is survived by her husband, Walter Haugen of Foxboro, WI; son, Owen Haugen of Salt Lake City, UT; her brothers, Erik (Robin) Halverson of West Linn, OR and Mark Halverson of Lake Nebagamon, WI; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. service at Downs Funeral Home located at 1617 N 19th Street, Superior, with Gary Banker officiating.
Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
