Sarah Dees Obituary
North Augusta, SC....... Sarah Dees died and went home to be with her Heavenly Father. We will greatly miss her light and love but are so greatly comforted to know she is at peace and we will always have memories of light and love. Sarah is preceded in death by her father Captain William A. Griffis, III, USMC, her uncle Captain Donald Griffis, USMC, and her aunt Sallie Griffis Helms. Sarah is survived by her husband, Dr. Charlie Dees of North Augusta; her three loving children, Hannah Grace Dees Evans (Lt. Theodore) of Ft. Campbell, KY, Abigail Kathleen Dees, a student at Yale Divinity School, and Charles William Dees, a student at Clemson University; her mother, Sally Baggett Griffis of Aiken; and a sister, Mitty Mirrer, her husband Frank Mirrer, and their two daughters, Alexandra and Emma of Providence, RI.
Sarah's life exemplified light and selfless love. She loved her fellow man, her family, and God. Sarah had a heart for her fellow man, particularly those most in need. She was an incredibly active and empathetic listener who would often remember important details of a person's story years later. Sarah truly felt the challenges that we all sometimes face and was always there to listen and offer support. When someone was most in need Sarah was there to help. She truly had an other-centered heart.
Sarah's greatest earthly devotion was to her family. She was a loving mother and wife who gave so much to her family even when she was battling metastatic cancer. When they were little, Sarah would read to her children on her lap for hours on end. As they got older, Sarah would listen to her children for hours and offer insightful and timely advice to edify them. Her children always knew they were loved and supported. Sarah's kindness, love, and gentle persistence helped her husband to grow and be a better man. Sarah ceaselessly prayed for all of us and we are so very grateful for her love and support.
All of Sarah's loving attributes start with her love for God. Sarah thought about God and heaven at a young age and always had her mind on heavenly things. She prayed for hours daily for the peace and protection of her family and the whole world. Her joyful and humble spirit was a light for all those fortunate enough to be around her. She lifted up humanity. We will greatly miss sweet Sarah but her spirit and memories will always be with us. Sarah is in Heaven with all the angels and saints who preceded her. We love you precious sweet Sarah.
Her memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Noon in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at the residence following the service.
