Funeral services for Sarah “Kate” Grogan Kennedy, age 81 will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Pine Street Church of Christ, 900 N. Pine Street, Vivian, LA with Preacher Leonard Dean officiating. Interment will follow at the Vivian Cemetery, Vivian, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the church until service time.
Kate was born on November 20, 1943, in Shreveport, LA to Dexter Grogan and Edith Kate Rudeseal, and passed away on October 26, 2025 at the Cypress Place Assisted Living in Jefferson, Texas.
Kate had deep roots in Shreveport and Vivian, Louisiana. A proud graduate of North Caddo High School, she married William in 1966 and together raised two wonderful children, Kassie and William Jr who called her Mama. Kate was “Nana” to five grandchildren -Taylor, Landry, Cassarah, Cameron and Addison and a great grandmother to Unity and Cassidy.
With a diploma from VoTech in Shreveport, she became an LPN in 1965 and dedicated over 20 years to hospice care, a role she held dear. Kate enjoyed fishing, visiting casinos and cheering on her beloved LSU Tigers. She also enjoyed indulging in her favorite treats, Coca Cola, sour pickles and red Lifesavers. She shared her life with numerous beloved pets from Tiny, Sadie, Texas, Sara, Pip and Sugars. Kate was a member of the Pine Street Church of Christ. Above all, her family was her greatest treasure.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Harold Kennedy, Sr, great granddaughter, Cassidy Kennedy, son-in-law, SFC Gary Collins and brothers, Dexter Grogan, Jr., John Grogan and Rives Grogan.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kassie Collins, son, William Kennedy, Jr and wife, Meri. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, and great granddaughter.
Pallbearers for Kate will be Johnny Grogan, James Grogan, Cliff Holt, Matt Hancock, John Ralph Josey and Bobby Don Josey
