Sarah Knighten Obituary

Sarah Jane Dory Knighten, 91, passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2025, in Wenatchee, Washington, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 1, 1933, in Snowflake, Arizona, to Habert Loren Dory and Pearl Smith-Dory. After graduating from Chandler High School, Sarah married Jess Willard Knighten Sr. They spent their early years in small mining towns throughout Arizona, moving often as Jess worked to support their growing family. In time, they moved to Washington, where they hoped to put down roots. Following Jess's passing, Sarah, at age 39, returned to school full time at Clark College in Vancouver and became a registered nurse-all while raising their twelve children on her own. Her strength, determination, and deep sense of purpose were evident in everything she did. In 1998, Sarah served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the South Africa Cape Town Mission, a cherished chapter of her life, marked by service and spiritual growth. Sarah enjoyed sewing and spending time in her garden. Her green bean plants got extra attention, and she made sure her family enjoyed the results. Her quilts, homegrown vegetables, blackberry jam, and grape juice were a steady part of family life. Though life took her many places over the years, Sarah always returned to Wenatchee, Washington, the place she loved most and made her lifelong home. She is survived by her children: Bob (Missy), Chuck (Cindy), Paul, Mark, Scott (Susan), Doug, Kimberly Sinclair (Scott), Lisa Fairchild (Jeff), Eric, and Phillip (Trina); her brother, Rudy Dory; 40 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Willard Knighten Sr., and two sons, Jess Jr. and John Knighten. Sarah's life was a testament to faith, resilience, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 25th at 11 AM. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 667 10th St NE, East Wenatchee, WA.
