Sarah L. Nicholas

Sarah Louise (Smith) Nicholas was born to Mildred M. Clayman and Brenard C. Smith, Sr. in Dover, PA, on June 29, 1929.
Sarah was a faithful and hard-working woman who loved Jesus, her family, and her church, and had a smile and a hug for everyone she came in contact with. After working various jobs over the years, Sarah became a dietician and managed the kitchen at Misericordia Convalescent Home in York, PA, for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Not one to sit still and enjoy retirement, Sarah then began a new career as a cleaner and sexton at Trinity United Church of Christ in downtown York where she served for over 20 years and finally retired (against her will) at the age of 88. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren kept Sarah busy when she wasn't working. She was also an avid crafter most of her life and enjoyed sewing, making dolls, crocheting, scrapbooking, and collecting owls.
Sarah went home to be with the Lord at the age of 95 on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from Rest Haven in York, PA, where she had resided since suffering from a stroke in 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Brenard C. Smith, Jr. and Herbert Smith; her sisters, Delores Rudacille and Lorraine Lefever; several siblings who passed in infancy; her son, Keith A. Anderson; her first husband, Curtis F. Anderson, Sr.; her great-grandson, Zachary J. Anderson; and her second husband, Eugene M. Nicholas.
She is survived by her son, Curtis F. Anderson, Jr. and wife, Betsy; her daughter, Alisa A. Garbrick and husband, Randy; her grandson, Eric K. Anderson and wife, Stephanie, of Charlotte, NC; her granddaughter, Nikki L. Donahue and husband, Brian; her dear great-grandchildren, Richard K. Donahue and wife, Christina; Amber J. Anderson, Jacob D. Anderson, James C. Donahue and wife, Cora; Sarah E. Donahue, Ean J. Donahue, Jesse N. Donahue, Samuel N. Donahue, and Elijah Z. Donahue; as well as her great-great-grandsons, Keith C. K. Donahue and Kai A. O. Donahue.
Sarah will be missed by her family, her nieces and nephews, her church family, and all who knew her.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 @ 1:00 p.m., at Calvary Chapel of York, 423 Norway St, York, PA 17403. Overflow parking is available in the two lots across Norway St. All are welcome.
